Golf, Tennis & Local Escapes just minutes from the Port

As the French Riviera warms under the summer sun, Cannes comes alive, not just with the glamour of yachts and cocktails on the Croisette, but with quiet corners, nature escapes, and hidden sporty spots that locals love.

Whether you’re in town for the Cannes Yachting Festival or just soaking up the Côte d’Azur energy, I’ve created a personal guide from one expat-turned-local to another. This is where I go when I want to escape the crowds, play a set, take a swing, or just breathe.

We’ll head north, south, east, and west from Cannes to discover what’s really out there, just beyond the marina. You’ll find picturesque tennis courts, cliffside paths, vineyard islands, and sparkling coves.

To the North: Tennis, Padel & Golf in Mouans‑Sartoux

Need a break from champagne and heels? Head just 20 minutes inland to Mouans‑Sartoux, where you’ll find top-quality tennis, padel, and golf, surrounded by rolling hills and Provençal greenery.

  • Tennis & Padel: Many locals play at the Tennis Club de Mouans-Sartoux, offering well-kept clay courts and a few padel courts if you want to try something fun and social.

  • Golf de Saint Donat: If you're into golf, this 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. is a local favorite. Tree-lined fairways, olive groves, and a peaceful terrace for post-round rosé at La Closerie.

Whether you're looking to move your body or just enjoy a scenic lunch far from the crowd, this north-side corner of the Riviera is a quiet win.

To the West: Discover Secret Coves in Théoule‑sur‑Mer

Tucked away between the red cliffs of the Estérel and the blue of the Med, Théoule-sur-Mer feels like another world. It’s a short drive from Cannes but feels untouched.

This tiny coastal village is a favorite for cliffside villas, coastal hikes, hidden beaches, and local spots like La Plage Blanche, a laid-back beach club with great food and relaxed luxury. You can also rent a small boat or paddleboard and explore the coastline’s wild inlets.

Perfect for a late morning dip and lunch before heading back to the buzz of the festival.

To the East: Walk the Cap d’Antibes Coastal Path

When you need peace, Cap d’Antibes delivers. The Sentier du Littoral coastal trail starts from Plage de la Garoupe and winds around pine forests, secret coves, and dramatic cliffside steps.

No cars, no stress: just the sound of waves and the shimmer of light on the sea. Take a dip halfway through, or just watch the yachts from afar and enjoy the silence.

To the South (by Sea): The Lérins Islands

Just 15 minutes from the Port of Cannes by ferry, the Lérins Islands are where locals escape when they want to disconnect.

  • Île Sainte-Marguerite is wild and green, with eucalyptus forests, rocky beaches, and the Fort Royal (where the real Man in the Iron Mask was held). Don’t miss the underwater eco-museum—a snorkel-friendly art installation just off the coast.

  • Île Saint-Honorat is home to Cistercian monks who make wine, honey, and olive oil. Walk the peaceful trails, explore 1,600 years of monastic history, and have lunch at La Tonnelle by the sea.

It's an easy, soul-soothing day trip that feels like it could be hours away—but it's right here.

Looking for a Place to Stay?

If you're still looking for a spot to stay during the festival, I currently have availabilities at the Cannes Breeze flat! A light-filled, modern pied-à-terre just minutes from the Palais and the beach. It’s quiet, central, and ideal if you need a little peace between the action.

Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to book—or just want tips for your Riviera time.

Cannes may be known for yachts and red carpets, but the real Riviera magic happens just outside the spotlight.

If you’d like help customising your trip or want local tips (restaurants, secret spots, boat rentals), I’d be happy to help.
